iOS 5 is now available to the public!

Are you ready for iCloud? Are you ready for iOS 5?

Some of us have had the privilege of using iOS 5 for a week now.  The GM was released last Tuesday at the “Lets Talk iPhone” apple event.

Personally, I think it has some great features.  My favorites I have already covered in previous posts... But here are my top 3...

You can set custom tones for every sound your iDevice makes.

The notification center which takes all your alerts for every app, and puts them into one convenient place.

When you get text messages, you no longer get the text alert in the middle of your screen, completely interrupting what your doing at the time.  Your device now just shows a small alert at the top of the screen, then disappears to the notification center to remind you about it later.

*** Just be for warned.  There is ONLY A TEATHERED jailbreak out right now for the GM.  Now that the final version of iOS 5 is here, there is not telling if that same JailBreak will work or not.  So… If your planning to upgrade, but can’t live with out your jailbreak… Then wait.  TEATHERED jailbreaks SUCK!!! ***

Apple has released the new iTunes, iTunes 10.5, to the public, just one day before it plans to launch its newest mobile operating system, iOS 5.

iTunes 10.5 is available for download either from your iTunes desktop client by checking for an update in the Main Menu, for apples software update app or at the Apple website.  iTunes 10.5 will be required for iPhone, iPad and iPad Touch owners who want to sync their devices using the forthcoming iOS 5.

Announced back in June, iOS 5 is scheduled for an October 12 release.  Now that iTunes 10.5 has come out, all iDevice owners can prepare themselves and their gadgets for the newest Apple mobile operating system.

The key features of iTunes 10.5 concern access to music, movies and apps from multiple devices. Here are the big changes and additions, per Apple:

  • iTunes in the Cloud. iTunes now stores your music and TV purchases in iCloud and makes them available on your devices anywhere, any time, at no additional cost.
    • Automatic Downloads. Purchase music from any device or computer and automatically download a copy to your PC and iOS devices.
    • Download Previous Purchases. Download your past music, TV, app, and book purchases again, at no additional cost. Previous purchases may be unavailable if they are no longer on the iTunes Store.
  • Sync with your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch with iOS 5.
  • Wi-Fi Syncing. Automatically sync your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch with iTunes any time they’re both on the same Wi-Fi network.

iOS 5 GM was released two days ago once Apple finished its media event where it announced the iPhone 4S. iOS 5 public version will be available starting from October 12 for all device but in case you can’t wait until that date, we’re here to help you to get iOS 5 GM on your device right now without need to developers account.

At first you will need to back up your iOS devices with iTunes in case of a problem happened. Once you back up your data, now you’ll need to download iOS 5 GM firmware file (use Google for this). Also download and install iTunes 10.5 beta 7 from here.

Now open iTunes then to your iPhone settings and hold down the option key on a Mac or the shift on Windows and click the Restore button. Point iTunes to your iOS 5 GM IPSW file you downloaded then wait for iTunes to finish.

Finally, restore your device from your backup to get your data back on the new iOS. It will be rebooted once then you’ll get your device ready to use.
In case you’re a jailbreak fan, you might want to tethered jailbreak iOS 5 GM using redsn0w or sn0wbreeze.

Where the hell is my iPhone 5 Apple???

We have been watching (well, reading actually) a live blog this morning covering the events that are unfolding at the Apple headquarters in Cupertino CA.

Everyone (geeks like me) have been waiting for today.  The day that we hear about the iPhone 5…

Well that shit isn’t going to happen!!!

So what have we learned so far?  Here is a quick iPhone recap of the “let’s talk iPhone” event happing right now at the Apple Campus in Cupertino, CA…

So now it’s official, the iPhone 4 will be followed by and updated phone…..  the iPhone 4s.  That’s right… the 4s.  Like people couldn’t see that one coming.  I mean, you all heard of the 3g and its upgrade, the 3gs right???

Maybe we will see an i5 next year?  Makes sense though if you think about it.  Apple has been doing MAJOR version changes every 2 years…

    • iPhone 2g (original) = 2007
    • iPhone 3g = 2008
    • iPhone 3gs = 2009
    • iPhone 4 = 2010
    • iPhone 4s = 2011
    • iPhone 5 = 2012???

So what's the pricing on the 4s???

    $199 = 8gb
    $299 = 32gb
    $399 = 64gb

Ok.  Here are the key “perks”

    • The A5 chip is now making its way into the iPhone
    • “Dual-core CPU, 2x as fast at CPU tasks. Also dual-core graphics. Up to 7x faster in the previous iPhone. One area you really see it scream is in games.”
    • Data can now download up to 2x as fast. Theoretical max performance used to be 5.8 up and 7.2 down — now doubles to almost 14.4Mbps down.
    • “What’s the new camera on the iPhone 4S like? It starts with an 8 megapixel sensor.”
    •  Increased to 8 hours talk time, damn! “Fantastic battery life.”
    • Second, wireless system: “Our engineering team has worked really hard to advance the state of the art that’s never been done in a phone before. It can now intelligently switch between two antennas between send and receive to make even better call quality.”
    •  That’s right Sprint people, you’re FINALLY getting the iPhone. Sorry, T-Mobile people.

So when is it coming out?  Pre-Orders will start on October 7th, and the iPhone 4gs will launch on October 12th.
